THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ASSOCIATIONMalaysia Silambam Association
The year 1976 marked the golden era for Silambam in Malaysia. This was because the Malaysian Parliament enacted an act this year to restructure and register all self-defence art organizations in the country.
Unfortunately, Silambam was not managed by any individual or organization at that time. Therefore, encouraged by the late Grandmaster Mr. S. Arumugam and through the diligent efforts of the Honourable Datuk V. L. Kandan, then Youth Chief of MIC, the Malaysian Silambam Association was registered on February 22, 1977, with registration number 1994 (Selangor). A constitution was also provided.
It was later registered under the Sports Development Act 1997, on October 27, 2002, with registration number 1146/2002. Currently, the Malaysian Silambam Association has 13 State Affiliates at the State level and 3 in the Federal Territories of Malaysia.
